We Are Scientists at Koko

For a band that achieved worldwide success a decade ago with their acclaimed debut studio album With Love and Squalor, We Are Scientists are still proving their worth on the indie rock music scene. If anything, the teeming Camden venue showed that the American trio’s popularity is not likely to wane any time soon.

From the moment they arrived on-stage, bottles of beer to hand, We Are Scientists captured the audience’s attention and had members jumping, crowdsurfing and singing along. Energetic frontmen Keith and Chris also entertained the crowd with comedy skits in between vivacious renditions of some of their well-loved songs as well as fresher releases. The three indie rockers bounced and head-banged their way through older hits such as the widely recognised Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt to newer singles from their latest album Helter Seltzer. The heaving crowds were uproariously impressed with every riff and vocal, a tribute to this band’s continuing musical career. For a group consisting of just three people, the sound and energy emanating from the stage was striking.

And just when everyone thought that this dynamic gig was about to die down, the vivacious three-piece kicked off again with catchy hits such as The Great Escape. Up until the very end, We Are Scientists’ audience were going wild; even those unfamiliar with the work would have found it hard to resist the temptation of jumping straight into a mosh pit or jumping about in one of Koko’s many nooks.

This enduring New York-based indie rock band has certainly proved that their talent and boundless energy are still set to entertain international audiences for the foreseeable future. With their new album having been released last month, keep an ear out for We Are Scientists on a radio station, playlist or even at a music venue near you.
