Christian Louboutin to reinvent Cinderella’s glass slipper
What better way for Christian Louboutin to celebrate Walt Disney’s re-release of Cinderella on Blu-Ray and DVD this autumn than bringing to life Cinderella’s glass slipper? In honour of the occasion, the French shoe designer was commissioned by Disney to reinterpret the famous fairytale footwear worn by the iconic namesake of the animated classic and add his own “magic touch.”
Louboutin said: “I have been so lucky to have crossed paths with Cinderella, an icon who is so emblematic to the shoe world as well as the dream world.”
This isn’t the first time the fairytale shoe has been a source of inspiration in the fashion world – a few years ago, Maison Martin Margiela created his own version for a limited edition range.
Louboutin’s unique version of the iconic glass slipper is to be unveiled this July, so it’ll be a while before fashionistas get a glimpse of it. I can imagine a steep stiletto, beautiful glass detail and, of course, that distinctive red sole.
Fans who can’t wait for the summer to have their Louboutin fix can visit the the designer’s first ever UK retrospective at the Design Museum in London, which opens this week. The opening will be followed by a lavish after-party at The Ivy, with guests rumoured to include Diane von Furstenberg, Dita Von Teese and Daphne Guinness.
Are you itching to get your feet into a red-soled glass slipper? Or are you more excited to own a copy of Disney’s Cinderella on DVD or Blu-Ray?
Christian Louboutin‘s designs are on view to the public at the Design Museum from 1st May to 8th July 2012. For more information, click here.
