Mulhier spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW

Inside the door of a refurbished West Village garage, there is a chic yet austere presentation space, set with three large mirrors suspended from the center of the ceiling. As waiters handed out iced coffees and a seemingly ubiquitous green juice, the refreshing stage was set for the debut of Mulhier’s spring/summer 2017 collection. Expecting a standard presentation, onlookers were surprised with a small runway show, where models circled and wove around the suspended mirrors.

The reason was clear: this collection begged for movement. The ensembles were rife with flowy, light-as-air materials that caught the motion of walking impeccably. Trains of grosgrain ribbon, flowy organza skirts, and oversized bell sleeves came to life with the breeze the models’ struts propelled in their wake.

The highlights of the collection were strong yet feminine lines of high-waisted crepe pants, with linear button detailing gave a subtle contrast to the more amorphous fluttering gowns, and high-cut linen pants, slit right up to the mid-thigh, giving the illusion of some sort of summer short/dress hybrid.

Intricate and detachable organza sleeves that crossed the back and choker necklaces gave way to fabric pulsating in excess behind them. Even a pair of flared pants were a tornado-like gathering organza at the base.

The closing look of the collection was a stunning white linen open floor length gown overlaying a pair of black leather skinny pants. As the models performed their final walk, they assembled en masse within the mirror display to give a final presentation effect. From here we noticed the collection held a simple color palette of midnight blues, creams, taupes and of course black.

Powerful feminine forms were certainly a reflective central theme to this collection. The airborne looks of this collection were given even more impact by the strutting sirens that displayed them with dangerous magnetism. Truly this Spring/Summer will be one to wear ribbons down ones back.
