Tadashi Shoji used a unique video clip to introduce his new spring/summer line. The words “flying ark” appeared on screen before a bird began pulling an elephant by its tail, up into the sky. The elephant himself was holding a tree ripped from the root, with several animals hanging from the branches: a crocodile, a lion, a snake, a horse and more. This clip reminded me of the animals on Noah’s ark. Tadashi Shoji’s collection had a natural feel.
In fact, the first flower design trailed from the waist on a skirt, with a green see-through blouse. Then it came the fur, with a wonderful pink coat and black lace top. Tadiahi boldly mixed seasons by with a few pieces of both lace and fur.
Lace was found on most of the designs – if not all – and came in a variety of colours and combinations, green, black, red. This diversity was when lace was used to create v shapes. These triangualr shapes also appeared at the bottom of a few dresses and at the bottom of a crop top. The acute angles on the collection made the pieces more edgy.
The hummingbirds on a few pieces were a truthful delight as it seemed the hummingbirds lived between the flowers on blazers, dresses and shirts. The ending of the show revealed an amazingly light-weighted maxi dress several feet behind the model, which looked like ocean waves dancing upon.
