Erin Fetherston spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW
“This show is very near to my heart as it marks my ten year anniversary of showing in NYFW. Spring 2017 is a celebration of this journey and a look into the future,” said Erin Fetherston. A portion of her sales of will be donated to the 9/11 Memorial fund. The collection was shown on 9/11 at Skylight at Clarkson Square, a location of NYFW and hub to designer and fashion show seekers alike.
The room was packed with 20-something-year-old girls eagerly awaiting the new collection. Each viewer was as fashionable as the next, dressing in the latest Miu Miu flats, Balenciaga purses to Celine slip dresses in hopes of being photographed by a street style photographer outside and in.
Stolen Dance by Milky Chance echoed through the speakers and the lights came up to start the Light of the Moon spring/summer 2017 collection. The hip, pop-esque, laid-back vibe set the tone of the show, as the first model walked down the runway in a dusty rose silk jacquard shoulder dress.
The model’s wore flip flops of a matte nude or slip on sandals adorned with raw crystals making a striped vertical pattern. A handful of models wore a matching necklace. This gave a certain feel to the collection transforming it from a resort feel to a Los Angeles light but chic and modern feel. The colour scheme of peridot, onyx, opal, moonstone, rose and a shimmer gold and silver was a literal translation of the crystal stone feel.
The spring/summer 2017 materials were those of a flowy and light kind. There was an abundance of silk, sequins, chiffon and gauze making it as practical as it could be for warmer weather. Each silhouette was loose but fit the models’ bodies well: tight and fitted in all of the right places, and loose in others for a very flattering silhouette. A buyer would be excited to be fashion forward, and practically cool while wearing.
The collection was not just one of dresses, but incorporated many blazers, trousers and a denim pant suit and jeans with tops. Even the more business-appropriate looks could be easily worn to the office and paired with heels for a seamless day to night transition. The practicality of the show did not hinder the wow factor, rather allowed for the viewer to imagine themselves and their lives in each piece.
Styling of the collection was loose curls, dewy skin and very minimal makeup, which makes complete sense for a summer collection. The accessories focused on skinny scarfs for an added flair and dream catcher cross bodies, that will all be for sale on her website starting the day after the show.
