The runway show for Bibhu Mohapatra on 14th September at Moynihan Station was said to be set in “pre-war, Parisian era characterised by flourishing art and literature. The spring 2017 collection was inspired by the hidden identities of the females of La Belle Époque, celebrating the optimism, prosperity and cultural innovations of the prolific time” as quoted by the designer. The packed audience was filling the room, with no empty seats or standing room. Everyone was eager to see the inspiration they had just read about come to life. The collection was a large one, comprising of 43 looks which would create a lengthy show.
The spring/summer 2017 collection started with more causal wear but still dressed up. Each model had soft curled hair, matte skin and lipstick which created a dramatic, evening look. All models wore Christian Louboutin heels which further added to the luxury feel and elegance.
As the show went on, looks 30 and on, the looks became more dramatic and black tie. The models who started wearing pearl and diamond chokers were now wearing the jewels on their gowns. One may think of pearls and diamonds in a certain glamour but this collection took them to another level with couture level hand embroidery.
Each look was more compelling than the next. Any woman wearing the beautiful gowns of silk organza, feathers, tulle, diamond and perfect nude hosiery would look like royalty.
