John Paul Ataker presented his spring summer collection at The Dock at Moynihan Station to a full house on Tuesday morning. After founding his company as a custom tailor in Istanbul in 1977, Ataker branched out into the world of high-end fashion. Quickly after, he was about to build up an international following.
Ataker has built his brand on elegant designs and well-tailored clothing. This season, he drew from ancient Assyrian culture as his inspiration for the collection. Additionally he played with mixing typically feminine and masculine shapes to dress his woman in a way that was unique and fashion forward.
Some of the pieces that received the largest reaction from the audience were the bridal-worthy dresses. Several long white dresses took the runway much to the pleasure of the viewers. One of the dresses had a long cape-style back made of tiny mesh petals that doubled as a train. A perfect outfit for the bold bride.
There were also a lot of modern takes on Ataker’s traditional inspiration such as a white midi dress with graphic cutouts and a long draped scarf detail. Additionally three-dimensional flowers, something that seems to be a trend for spring summer 2017, appeared on the runway several times and created a textile that was worked into bold oversized shapes.
The blend of classical inspiration with contemporary twists resulted in a line that would be fitting for stylish spring brides and women looking to make a statement at formal events.
