Julien Macdonald spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW

A-list favourite Julien Macdonald made an extravagant return to London Fashion Week today.

Set on the basket ball court of Seymour Leisure Centre, the front row was filled with celebrities including Rosie Fortescue, Fearne Cotton, Abbey Clancy and Ella Eyre, as model of the moment Hailey Baldwin opened the runway.

Inspired by the prolific Maasai tribes and solitary landscapes of African plains, Macdonald didn’t let fans down with his glamorous eveningwear incorporating daring cut-outs, intricate lace and plenty of sparkle. Snakeskin was notably reimagined in dusky, feminine shades featuring incredible three-dimensional Swarovski embroidery to create an afro-chic aesthetic.

Macdonald’s hero knitwear dresses made an appearance in soft tones of gold and silver, teamed with metallic ombre fringing, acting almost like a second skin to their wearer.

The classic smoking jacket and sharp two-piece suits were given a contemporary twist, while boilersuits for both men and women stayed true to the rock and roll aesthetic of the brand.

The spring/summer man drew inspiration from utility clothing, seen through modern interpretations of cargo trousers and jumpsuits in jet black, married with striking silver hardwear.

In true Julien Macdonald style, the designer closed the runway by joining his models on stage to a much-earned rapturous applause.
