Denmark’s Noma hits top spot again in the world’s 50 best restaurants
Last night, the world’s most famous chefs, food critics, and the international media gathered at London’s Guildhall for the announcement of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2012.
The list, announced annually, is compiled by Restaurant Magazine and is decided by a voting system across 800 of the world’s leading industry experts. To be awarded the first place is not only a huge honour in the food industry, but guarantees your restaurant an unprecedented flow of custom for the entire year.
This year’s top spot went to Copenhagen’s Noma, Rene Redzepi’s converted warehouse restaurant on Copenhagen’s historic dockside. Having been on the list consistently over the past seven years, and also winning the top position last year, Noma constantly amazes diners with vibrant, imaginative twists on traditional Nordic dishes.
The first British restaurant to enter the list came in at a very respectable number nine, which was awarded to Dinner By Heston Blumenthal – located in Knightsbridge, London. Dinner reworks traditional English dishes with Heston’s scientific, precise twists. Blumenthal’s more famous restaurant The Fat Duck, in the Berkshire town of Bray, entered the list at number thirteen. The only other British restaurant on the list is The Ledbury at number fourteen. Unsurprisingly, Paris dominated the list with more included restaurants than any other city.
