Irynvigre spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW
As part of Fashion Scout for London Fashion Week, Irynvigre showed a stunningly haunting, ethereal spring 2017 collection. Entitled Undines, the designs took inspiration from the image and spirit of mysterious elemental beings – undines – which, according to Norse mythology, reside in pools and waterfalls but leave the water to lure humans to them with their beauty. The enigmatic and spellbinding nature of the mythical undine seemed to come to life in the form of Irynvigre’s captivating clothes as they took centre stage in a show that held the audience utterly enraptured.
The intelligent ways in which each design was cut and placed together created the magical illusion that the models were wearing clothes spun from flowing waters. With their wet-look hair and shimmering, blue-eye makeup, it really did feel as though we were watching creatures that had recently emerged from the ocean.Indeed, the cool colour palette of pale blue, lilac, silver and white were intended to reflect the foam that laps across the sea, their shimmering hues adding to the haunting beauty of the show as a whole. The first few looks, a series of floating, dropped shoulder mini dresses with voluminous sleeves, gave way to longer silhouettes that incorporated reflective and semi-sheer fabrics that really evoked a mysterious, watery effect.Sharply tailored cropped jackets with strong shoulders grounded some of the floatier pieces, whilst sharp, high collars provided a series of white asymmetric dresses with a graphic edge.A low V-necked jumpsuit that trailed loose folds of airy fabric was a particular highlight, seeming to undulate around the body like the translucent fins of a fish. These fin-like additions also appeared on the lower legs of two finale gowns, creating a literal “fish-tail” on designs that otherwise hugged the figure.Irynvigre’s Undines was undoubtedly one of the most beautifully evocative, well thought-out collections of the season; it certainly won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
