David Ferreira spring/summer 2017 collection catwalk show for LFW
David Ferreira’s new collection is the perfect combination of tradition and innovation, exhibiting his renowned modern approach to couture.
The first looks were all white which starkly contrasted against the harsh black of the wigs donned by all the models. There featured a combination of Victorian-esque gowns and tailored suits decorated with gold or silver foil in a batique effect. Puffy arms, corsets and long trains were recurring features, yet these traditional designs were juxtaposed with sequins and lace to give a modern twist. The next looks continued with the same style of designs but in exotic golds and blues and oranges layered on top of shimmering fabrics. Voluminous shapes and drapery were utilised to create strong silhouettes, but the actual detail of the textures used gave the garments an unconventional yet captivating appearance. Sequins, lace, mesh and fur were all incorporated to add another dimension to the traditional couture style of the designs.Although the couture feel of the gowns was noticeable throughout all the looks, the contrasting colours and fabrics used in the show meant each look was highly original. Featuring black PVC and leather gowns juxtaposed against a dress made entirely of baby pink ruffles emphasised the diversity which is a testament to Ferreira’s creativity. Ferreira definitely blended the lines between fashion and art creating a visually stunning collection.
