Michael Costello autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW

The show began with a series of flirty gowns of sheer design. The first was a jumpsuit with bell bottoms and sleeves and florets scattered about the front. A suit even wider at the sleeves and ankles followed this one, with buff shoulder pads, a thick neckline and strap down the center of the chest. Corsets were also spotted between the gowns.

Though all the gowns revealed some portion the model’s  body, Costello kept the collection sophisticated looking and classy, and fired that ambition with a striking Afro wig worn by each of the models on the runway.

You could also find strings down the sides of shoulders, white top hats and belts, and trains (of dresses) across the floor, but Costello kept it sleek and tight in the most appealing areas of the body.

The collection switched gears after a model appeared in a groovy cowgirl inspired look, including the high-waist white skirt with strings trailing, and an open white blazer with no top beneath. The beaming silver stiletto and the thigh through the slit of the dress caused a vocal response from the audience.

A nice contrast, by way of a pattern of skin and off white was a theme throughout the collection, even more so when the gowns went from white to a sparkling champagne and popcorn textured sort. Costello chose a few interesting ways to leave out the skin in the champagne colored dresses, one in particular was the shape of an “I”. Others wore the upper back out and mid-abdominal section out.

The black dresses followed the golden ones if not paired with them, but most of Costello’s looks left something to flow moments behind the model.
