Amidst the bitter Manhattan weather, Lan Yu once again amazed the audience with an array of textures, patterns, and colours, highlighting the delicate and intricate design style she is known for. She was able to add a whimsical effect to even the most seemingly harsh fabric, and the cohesion of the collection was solidified through the pastel hair ribbons and the bold, statement-coloured eyebrows; this juxtaposition enveloped the entire collection.
Right off the bat the designer displayed her ability to play with fabrics. The jade lounge coat moved effortlessly with the model’s body, and a usually severe fabric was made free flowing. Underneath the coat was a perfectly fitting lace two-piece which served as a canvas to hold the simplistic ease of the coat.
The manipulation of the fabrics was again at the forefront, as the designer created a constructed, yet draped-off-the-shoulder dress. She utilised the soft blush colour to again play to the whimsical nature; however, in bending the rules and limits between structure and softness, the designer is able to create a one of a kind look that appeals to all different aesthetics. The playful side was further developed in the display of the fun, furry heels.
Although dark colour was introduced later in the show, the designer was still able to keep intact her playful artistic eye. These colours were softened with the implementation of lace and the visualisation of the female figure. Lan Yu was also able to continue her experimentation of using different fabrics. She correlated lace with thicker materials, as displayed in the unique off-the-shoulder sweater dress.
Lan Yu was able to retain cohesion throughout her astounding 40-piece collection. She implemented subtle details which added to the overall effect of every piece and was able to retain the attention of the audience by mixing seemingly opposing fabrics together. Her detail-oriented style was defined in this beautifully executed collection.
