Katty Xiomara autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW
An ultra feminine edge was the point of focus for designer Katty Xiomara. Her designs were perfectly complimented by intense geometric eye make-up with pink, dewy lips and textured hair styling. The whole ensemble exuded an air of sophisticated modernism while retaining a romantic, sensual nature.
It was sequins on sequins for the first look that hit the runway. The beige sequin dress was layered on a sequin top with satin collar and wrist detailing. Xiomara manipulated the sequins to reflect light in different ways and therefore appearing in slightly different beige colours, and this effect caused a pattern of sorts. The ultra reflectivity paired with the high sheen of satin was a stimulating combination. This nature was sensualised with the exaggerated V-neckline; however, no skin was revealed thus adding an intrigue with this romantic element.
Playful graphic print was embedded in a number of looks. The animal and nature inspired graphic pattern is detailed in a patterned overall with a navy blue lace overlay. One would think that these two patterns may be a mishap when merged; however, the combination of the two works surprisingly well together and compliment one another amazingly. The pattern of the blue lace moves effortlessly into the intricate detail of the graphic print. The flow is seamless between these two aspects.
Xiomara’s ability to create cohesion between different fabrics is specified in the long sleeve turtle-neck brown and blue dress that was paired with a light blue cape and plush shoulder detailing. The metallic hue of the dress works with the contrasting blue coat. The organic flow between the brown and blue in the dress is met in sharp contrast to the illustrated design on the cape. This cape, too, has opposing personalities: the blue design base is met with a fluffy, spotted shoulder detail. Although these elements are seemingly contrasting within the look itself, Xiomara’s keen eye for design is able to refine these elements and incorporate unity in relation to one another.
A romantic, modern woman is expressed through the collection that Xiomara provided. The woman depicted has a playful nature and enjoys experimenting with the different ways in which fabrics relate to one another. This idea is polished by Xiomara, and she creates a beautiful mix of diverse textures, patterns, and materials.
