Irina Vitjaz autumn/winter 2017 collection catwalk show for NYFW
High shine was on full display at Irina Vitjaz’s presentation of an ultra feminine collection; it exuded a sense of high class formal wear. The idea of old Hollywood glamour was brought to the forefront with the chic side-swept waves and dewy, polished make-up. The hair glistened in the lighting and the materials that Vitjaz utilised also reflected the light in a brilliant manner. This light display was a focal point and intrigued the audience.
Through the extensive intricacy of beading and the luxe texture of velvet, the silver beaded bodice and navy velvet high-wasted skirt was elevated to another level of sophistication. This look was able to retain simplicity even with the dramatic elements. It comprised of a skirt and top, yet the detailing in both sets it apart as a true work of art.
While a neutral palette was instilled for the most part, Vitjaz’s addition of pops of colour added an element of drama to the dazzling collection. The heavy satin yellow dress with a black flower belt exuberantly contrasted with the rest of the collection. The colour and material of the satin itself was illuminate, but the added bling of the belt marked this dress as a stand out piece.
Patterns were also implemented in the collection with Vitjaz’s embrace of technicolored stripes and beautiful florals. Feminine charm was displayed through the navy gown with floral detailing at the hem. This sleek, tailored dress spoke to the refinement of Vitjaz’s interpretation of a woman. The excellent construction with the added floral detailing was feminine yet boisterous. The multicoloured striped dress with sequin detailing was an excellent example of the designer’s ability to veer away from the systematic and render a dress with ease. The way in which the dress falls on the model’s frame is effortless, while the sequins tie it into the rest of the collection.
Vitjaz’s ability to render multiple different dress designs into one cohesive collection is amazing. Through her manipulation of light and shine, she was able to create a collection that made reference to the old school high class society, yet she was still able to instil a sense of modernity and youth.
