Howkapow: Homeware heaven
I think it is hard to find that fine line between classic and unique items for your home these days. With high street retailers taking a whole new approach to selling items for your home, I always like to find myself those special pieces which you know are perfect for a room in your house, but still give you that reassurance of it being something which is matchless.
Howkapow has exactly that. Owned by the married duo, Rog and Cat, the label is a wonderful home and kitchen paradise. Taking work from independent designers, Howkapow is a stockist of ceramics, prints, accessories and gifts from around the globe. Showcasing only what they consider to be the most unique and interesting talent, the online shop is a refreshing concept of what we all want in our homes.
The idea behind Howkapow came from the pair venturing round artist markets in both London and Australia. They searched these areas for talented and ambitious people who needed support in making their products into something much bigger. By providing designers with their expertise, progression for these dedicated people were brought to life with Cat and Rog’s commercial support and the creation of their website. The online shop is a true reflection of innovative ideas, taking designers who they know will be successful and giving them a push in the right direction.
When you browse the products they have to offer, you can’t help but feel the lengths the pair have gone to, to find the talent they are showcasing. From the doughnut tea towel by Bristol illustrator Lucie Sheridan (£10), Katy Binks’ Pop Print as seen in The Independent Online (£95) and the Glove and Cake Oven Gloves by Stuart Gardiner (£24), it can be seen that each piece is picked with true consideration to contribute to the vibrant feel of the label.
The website also sells a small range of jewellery, with my favourite being the simply stunning Large Ochre Hummingbird necklace priced at £98 and worth every single penny.
So if you are looking for that extra special detail for your kitchen, or just want to have a smile put on your face, Howkapow is for you. Find the online shop here.
