Time for Carlos to leave England as Tevez turns City celebrations sour
Carlos Tevez has been no stranger to controversy in his Manchester City career, and during the club’s open-top bus celebration of their Premier League title achievement he once again ensured he was the centre of attention.
The celebrations were well underway. It was very much a carnival atmosphere and rightly so; it has been a long time waiting for City fans.
On a day when it was all about the club, the Argentinian mercenary had other ideas. He held up a home-made sign with the words “RIP Fergie” written across it.
Carlos and Sir Alex clearly have personal issues but what Tevez did was in bad taste and he should never have been allowed to bring that sign onto the bus in the first place. In an ideal world, Tevez would have been pulled up by City staff and told that his sign wasn’t acceptable, but this was not the case – and it has once again been proven that Carlos Tevez can do whatever he likes.
He refused to play in the Champions League against Bayern Munich. Following this incident, Roberto Mancini insisted that his career at Manchester City was finished.
Mr Tevez decided to play golf for a few months in Argentina and then returned to City for the final stretch of the season. He basically walked straight back into the team without any consequence.
Due to the farcical events of the season just gone, it’s no wonder that Tevez does what he wants: he can get away with it. There was no consequence when he went AWOL and there won’t be any consequences this time either.
City have apologised for the sign but there’s no doubt that Carlos Tevez will continue to push the boundaries with his behaviour.
The sad reality is that Manchester City fans embrace Tevez because of his personal grudge against their bitter rivals. As long as he is in a sky blue shirt he will be seen as a figure who could potentially score a winning goal against Manchester United, therefore damaging their chances of challenging City.
Most people on the outside would argue that Manchester City don’t need Carlos Tevez, not only because of his overall attitude but for footballing reasons as well. They have a great goal scorer in Sergio Aguero and with the summer transfer window coming up, they will of course add to their squad even further.
Granted, the other forwards at City do not give the unrivalled work rate that Tevez does, but in a side that sees a huge amount of the ball during a game, they don’t need a headless chicken running around.
The truth is, Carlos Tevez has always been more bother than he’s worth and once again he has demonstrated this.
He has no concept of right and wrong and it seems that no matter what anybody on the outside says about his actions, he will continue to behave in this manner.
The Manchester City managing staff are largely at fault as they have allowed him to disrespect the club and still retain his place as a frequent starter. They have let him get away with everything up until now and you sense that this latest incident will also go unpunished.
Sir Alex made the choice not to buy Tevez and I think the whole country can now see why this was a very good decision. We just have to hope now that Manchester City also realise we don’t need this man in the English Premier League.
