The Lalit London review: Indian culture and British charm combine to perfection

The best way to describe the Lalit would be exactly what the hotel says about itself: “Indian culture combined with a quintessentially British charm.”

The Lalit is housed in the most stunning 180-year-old building that has previously been host to a grammar school. The colours of the exterior are very much reminiscent of its previous prupose: red brick paired with white detailing and large windows, the kind that classrooms would have.

Nonetheless, once you set foot inside, the buzz around the Tower Bridge evaporates as you enter the world of luxury and calm.

The hotel has many amenities for its guests, from food to relaxation. There are opportunities for fine dining as well as a bakery. Moreover, one can enjoy a true representation of something Britain and India both share: a tea lounge at the Gallery which overlooks the Great Hall. To unwind, there is also a 24-hour gym available and the Rejuve Spa. This is particularly unique as it combines both Eastern and Western therapies. The range of treatments is vast and is sure to suit every client.

Boasting a combination of 70 rooms and suites, each one features amenities such as a honesty bar filled with various types of refreshments (the main one being coconut water which is a must-try) and a Nespresso machine with a range of capsules. The rooms cater for all needs, from a work desk to finish off last-minute deadlines to a 40-Inch LED television to make sure you catch up on the news in the morning – or films in the evening. The regular chambers feature a double bed, whereas suites have a king-size mattress (which ensured an incredible sleep for our stay).

Upon coming into the room everyone is greeted by the Lalit Elphie – a toy elephant which is a signature of the hotel, it is supposed to bring happiness and luck. There’s the option to take one home too to enjoy a little bit of luxury back into your everyday life.

The bathrooms provide a truly relaxing experience – heated floors paired with bath robes and the most incredible shower come together to relax and rejuvenate visitors after a long day. They feature Kronocare Bath amenities which don’t only smell amazing but are also natural – a subtle touch of luxury even during a shower.

The staff at the Lalit have exceeded all our expectations. Starting from when we were greeted at our arrival – with coconutwater – to a member of staff immediately coming to help when we couldn’t figure out how to work a TV late at night. At breakfast we were walked through our options and everyone completely catered for our needs and offered alternatives to suit our dietary requirements. Overall the team have been incredibly friendly and supportive throughout the whole of our stay.

Despite the craze of our London trip, the Lalit has proved to be a place of calm and relaxation and is definitely a hotel one should stay at when visiting the capital.
