Top five contour kits

Just like a good pair of shoes that will allow you to walk around town for hours on end, girls (and boys) also need a good and reliable contour kit in which they can always trust to make them go from a bowling ball to a well-defined work of art. So we created the dream list to do just that! Here are our top five contour kits for a range of skin types and price points.

Pro Series Contour Kit, £39, Anastasia Beverly Hills

The queen of eyebrows branched out into the contour world and she certainly did it well. Seriously, there is a reason people love the beautiful Anastasia. The pro series contour kit is actually a cream kit, so would probably be more suited to those who have dry skin. If you have oily skin you may find this beauty sliding right off and that is not a look that anybody wants. The kit features three contour and three highlight shades, and also comes in four different colours, so there are choices for all skin types.

Shade and Light, £37, Kat Von D

This isn’t the first time we’ve written about Miss. Von D – if you can tell we are only mildly obsessed with her beauty range. Usually her cosmetics are long lasting, highly pigmented, vegan and cruelty free, the only downside is that price tag. But can you put a price on beauty? If you know your stuff then you’ve probably heard the constant applaud over Kat Von D’s shade and light contour palette; if not, then you’re in for a wild ride. Similar to Anastasia, Kat Von D’s palette also features three shades for highlight and three shades for contour. However, it only comes in one overall shade, so if you have a darker skin tone you may struggle. Nevertheless, there is a perk for some because this palette is powder based, so for those with an oily complexion this is going to be your new best friend. 

Sculpt Palette, £7.99, L’Oréal

Cheap, cheerful and contoured! L’Oreal’s palette is a cream formula, so it’s perfect for dry skin, and comes in two colours: light and medium. The palette features two typical highlight and contour shades, so you aren’t getting as many choices as you did with the Kat Von D palette or Anastasia’s, but you get to keep your organs. It also includes a “how to contour” guide, which is such a nice touch, and something which often goes amiss. Thank you, L’Oréal.

Define and Conquer, £5.99, Seventeen

As we were 90% sure this list may have bankrupted you all, to make it up to you we’ve found this little gem. It’s from Seventeen, and we know you probably haven’t shopped with them since you were – well, seventeen – but hear us out! There may only be two shades in this palette (one highlight and one contour) but it does come in a fair and a medium. It is also powder based, so it’s another option for oily-skinned or combination girls, and as it only has two basic shades, it would probably be best suited for beginners. And at £5.99, it isn’t the worst thing to practise with.

Sculpting Palette, £6.99, Rimmel London

Want to know what this contour palette has that others don’t? A blush. One of the simplest and often forgotten parts of contour is the blush, so this palette by Rimmel is great. The blush is really subtle and natural – it reminds us of something that Snow White would wear. It has a powder formula that comes in two shades: coral glow and golden bronze. Doesn’t it sound perfect for the summer months? Out of all the kits, this probably has the lightest coverage, so if you’re after a gentle glow then this is for you.
