Why people prefer to spend time on the Internet

Why people prefer to spend time on the Internet

It is no longer a thing of surprise that people prefer to spend time on the Internet. While most of the reasons are rational, addiction could be a worrying driving factor. We’ve summed them up below so that you can get a better understanding – and maybe figure which one applies to you.

Searching for information

Google registers over a billion searches every month and the number keeps increasing. Every year, there are over a trillion searches all over the world and this isn’t expected to stop anytime soon. The things people search for on the Internet range from discounts, jobs, business deals, gossip, games to pretty much whatever you can think of. Doing all of this offline would have taken ages and a lot of energy; the Internet makes it easier and this is why we all run for help to it.

Building, creating or managing

Everyday, about two million blogs are created. It would not be a lie to say that the Internet contains over a 150 million blogs already. Not to mention the uncountable e-commerce websites. Writing, managing emails, shopping, studying: these tasks are easier done online. Let’s take professional writing for example – it has never been as easy as it is today. Also, we can now manage our phone plans and phone bills online instead of waiting for hours to get a hold of customer service providers over the phone. Convenience is one of the great advantages of the Internet.

Communicating and socialising

Do you know that there are over a billion active users on Facebook every day? And the majority of these people use it to communicate and stay connected with other users. We can say the same about online forums, messaging applications and other community-driven websites. Though we all can admit it is not the same as socialising in real life, the amount of time and energy that the Internet saves us is significant. It is faster, easier, cheaper (or even free) to call and message someone who lives on the other side of the world than to try and meet them in real life. It is possible getting to know and talk with new people from all over the world without spending a dime or moving an inch.

The number of people using the Internet keeps increasing with every passing day and this might be a result of more of them being able to get access it as time goes by. The Internet is an integral part of our lives now and it woudl be impossible to imagine the modern world without it.
