Find the best local places in Britain with This is Your Kingdom
This is Your Kingdom is the rather wistful and patriotic name given to the website that details hidden local gems all over England for people to go and discover for themselves. Set up in 2010 by friends Hannah and Rebecca, the website encourages visitors to browse through the details of all of the “lovely local things to see and do in the UK”.
Both of the founders admit to loving walks on blustery days and long pub lunches, which all sounds very lovely and especially British, and it is very much the idea of the site. Its aim is to support and promote all that is British and to highlight all of the must-see local things that make up the country. Acting as an insider’s guide to local places, visitors to the site are encouraged to type in the search box by county or keyword. Typing in an area you are visiting will bring up a list of all sorts of nice walks, pubs and shops in the area so that you’ll gain the local knowledge and get to see the best bits of where you are visiting. Another option is to type in your own area and to discover for yourself the secret delis and riverside walks that you had no idea were in existence until you stumbled across This is Your Kingdom.
Acting as an insider’s guide is lovely and very handy especially because This is Your Kingdom gather their information from ‘in-the-know’ locals. The information is then published on the site, giving anybody who is interested the local knowledge needed to discover the best bits of the UK.
If you know of somewhere you think is perfect for the site, Hannah and Rebecca encourage people to get in touch with their suggestions; it is an innovative way for the best parts of your local area to be shown off and to fly the flag for independent businesses. Have a look at This Is Your Kingdom yourself, it’s such a pretty looking and easy-to-use website and, well, you never know what you might uncover around the corner!
