Chelsea Flower Show 2017: Highlights
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is now in full bloom, with an expected 165,000 attendees making their way to the Royal Chelsea Hospital, where the event has been held since 1913.
With eight show gardens, five fresh gardens, nine artisan gardens and more than 100 floral displays providing a visual feast, we have selected our six highlights.
The Great Pavilion
The heart of the Chelsea Flower Show is as spectacular as ever this year. More than 100 exhibits are displayed in the 12,000 square metre marquee, which is big enough to hold 500 London buses. From tropical houseplants to contemporary designs and sandy seashores, every inch is a delight.
BBC Radio 2 Feel Good Gardens
This new type of garden demonstrates how plants can invigorate the senses. Named after Radio 2 presenters, the five gardens incorporate an exciting range of sights, scents, sounds, flavours and textures, aimed to uplift and relax visitors.
The Silk Road garden
Inspired by the famous 4,000 mile long Silk Road trade route of Sichuan, this space encapsulates the mountain ranges, rivers, plants and wildlife with a welcome burst of fuchsia. Giant pandas can also be spotted rolling amongst the foliage.
Easigrass
Artificial grass brand Easigrass has created a fantastic display of their famous Easi-Animals. The 19ft giraffe and family of cuddly bears are particular favourites.
M&S Step into the Med
M&S took inspiration from the Mediterranean for their magical garden, which is filled with perfumed stocks, deep purple agapanthus, lavender and golden sunflowers. Courtyard walls are smothered with blooms in clashing colours, while a flower fountain stands in the centre.
Gladwell and Patterson
This commercial gallery specialises in oil paintings and watercolours by some of the most talented artists we have seen. At the show, they presented stunning works which included London landmarks, lavender fields and beautiful orchids.
