Tugcan Dokmen spring/summer 2018 collection presentation for LFW

Ethereal models of all ages are dotted around and within an acetate screen reflecting the spotlights shining on them, giving a dreamy effect across the central stage. This season’s inspiration for Tugcan Dokmen is Georgia O’keeffe and her influence is evident across the presentation; fluid shapes in the colours of nature flow across the sheer fabrics floating delicately in the wind (provided by strategically placed electric fans). It is lovely to see older women in the mix, and this perfectly encapsulates the mythical forest nymphs they embody; magical creatures of no specific origin or age.

Light and delicate silhouettes such as loose spaghetti strapped dresses and loose grecian style one pieces are accentuated with floating tulle and organza in a colour palette of pink, purple, blue and green. Horizontal ruffles adorn some of the pieces, whilst others sport beautifully printed soft stripes or shapes of natural forms. The materials are so sheer that the female figures beneath can be seen clearly through the mesh fabrics, adding another contour to the overall silhouettes. The front runner in terms of looks was a baby pink top with multi-layer ruffling detail combined with ice blue satin wide leg culottes; a perfect blend of pastels and opposing textures.

Models are accessorised with glittering crystal headpieces reminiscent of leaf vines or fishbones and stick on jewels around their cheekbones. Makeup is kept dewy and shimmering, with gentle orange and pink strokes around the contours of their faces. Footwear echoes the set design with PVC front panels and metallic heels, also glistening in the light. A sweet feature to the looks is tiny waist pouches with trailing ribbons in matching colours to the outfits, which add another dimension to the otherwise very simple and feminine figures.

Tugcan Dokmen presents an intriguing further exploration into her signature style, The Art of Layering, and provides a luxuriously elegant collection in a magical array of colours and textures for SS18.
