Ddfc’s Amira Haroon spring/summer 2018 collection catwalk show for LFW
Floral numbers typically feature as the feminine “go-to” during the eagerly awaited summer season, for their SS18 show Amira Haroon transcended this typical notion of femininity and transformed it into an all empowering, eclectic cornucopia of glamour and eccentricity, whilst maintaining their loyalty to their middle-eastern roots.
Donning bouncy perms and frequently clad in denim, the collection began with a decidedly 80s vibe intertwined with a nod to femininity through a motif outlining “I’m every woman” that emblazoned denim jackets. These visuals were followed by luxurious silks doused in rich middle eastern hues consisting of deep greens and burgundies that epitomised elegance, and pearl encrusted shoulders that infused opulence and glamour into an ensemble full to the brim with intricacies.
The designer’s uniquely innovative approach to creating an outfit materialised most impressively within the display. Seemingly mutually exclusive materials and styles were melded into an outfit that surprisingly became fluid as a piece, demonstrated by the combination of deep red silks and more masculinised blues that both complemented one another without completely blending in. Bows recurred frequently along the catwalk; typically deemed as cute, the bow took a completely new form through its transformation into an oversized bedazzled accessory that towered above the model’s bouncy perms, tantalising the sight and catching the eye both in the flesh and through the silhouettes created.
Through this minor inclusion, the importance of accessories were emphasised, transfiguring the concept of femininity into an overwhelming symbol of anything-but-feeble. Perhaps most striking was an outfit that consisted of a satin green dress, accompanied by a sheer overgarment embellished with stars and finished off with a choker adorned with a cream jewel encrusted bow. Comprising of a pastiche of elements, the attire amalgamated the much worn modern trend of the choker with a sense of classicism, resulting in a bold aesthetic that undoubtedly caught the attention of many.
Overflowing with intricacies and unique elements, Amira Haroon proposes femininity and fashion as a multifaceted concept, dense with fields to explore and styles to assume during the summer time.
