Why Casino Royale is the best Bond movie to date
Casino Royale came in 2006 as one of the movies that broke the mould inside the “Bond genre”: refreshing, action-packed, well-acted and well-directed. Martin Campbell has done it again, reviving a saga that was bored of itself. Here are some of the reasons why you should take a look to (probably) the best Bond movie made to date:
A killing intro song
Chris Cornell was the right choice to bring the Bond saga back to life. You Know My Name has a very rock tone to it, without losing the Bond sound. At the same time, it turned out to be a pretty catchy song, that tells the story of our favourite MI6 agent and his struggle to live a normal life and trust people around him.
The “realistic” approach
Unlike its predecessors, except Timothy Dalton and the two Bond movies he was in, we’ve never seen a realistic Bond until Casino Royale. It’s not only a matter of exploring James Bond’s roots and how he became the ruthless assassin he is, but we have the chance to see him lose, suffer and bleed(more than once!).
Stunts, action scenes and risky games
From the masterfully directed intro scene to the emotionally satisfying ending in Venice, Casino Royale is full of amazing breathtaking moments. They are not like any other action scene in a Bond movie, predictable and sometimes laughable, on the contrary, they manage to be beautifully shot and thrilling, always wondering if our hero will make it out it alive.
Daniel Craig as Bond
And now the real star of the film: Daniel Craig. The English actor did a fantastic job portraying the character with great realism and understatement – tough and committed to his job, but with weak and vulnerable at the same time. If that wasn’t enough, his chemistry with Vesper (Eva Green) is one of the best things you can experience in a Bond movie.
