Maze Runner: The Death Cure premiere: A chat with Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Wes Ball and cast
After a year-long postponement of production, Dylan O’Brien’s remarkable recovery propelled Maze Runner: The Death Cure right back into action. Together, he and everyone involved have helped deliver an eventful finale that pleases fans, breaks their hearts and gives them the action kicks that too many big-budget flicks have failed to provide. The giant mysteries of the Glades and WCKD are unravelled in this chapter and the rebellion makes Mockingjay’s revolution look like a minor coup d’etat. It’s a memorable ending to a spectacular trilogy.
We were there at the London premiere to speak with the cast and director of Maze Runner: The Death Cure. The star of the series, Dylan O’Brien, told us what made the experience so special and, after having compared the opening sequence to Indiana Jones, if he’d up for a role in Indiana Jones 5.
Kaya Scodelario, who plays Teresa – the only girl to enter the maze – told us what to expect of her morally ambiguous character’s arc, her relationship with the cast and who she’s rooting for at the BAFTAs.
After not featuring in the previous film, Will Poulter told us how it felt to rejoin the cast and crew and why the Maze Runner series is as politically resonant as ever.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster was in London on the evening too and told us how it felt to be in his home city celebrating The Death Cure, filming in South Africa, and being a part of a handful of major franchises.
Director Wes Ball talked about the emotional power of the finale, if he’ll continue to make more action movies and whether he’ll return to direct the prequel books if they’re given the green light.
