Aptly named I LOVE ME!, Ryan Lo’s return to presentation format marked a celebration of his work since he begun six years ago. Known for his sugar sweet designs, the presentation was held among the powder puff pink gallery restaurant at Sketch, creating the perfect background for Ryan Lo’s ladies who lunch.
Sickly swirls of rainbow tulle transport you into Ryan Lo’s world where each model has eyes like a Manga character and glittered lips. Ruffled appliqué fabrics have been hand scrunched to sculpture patterns abnormal to their usual form, such as houndstooth and flowers.
The collection is, as Lo says, “simply about what I love to do”. An abundance of nauseating pastels alongside Victoriana dresses are covered with puffs, ruffles and lace. Monochrome looks were splattered throughout, adding to the dark, playful romance that Lo does so well. Character is where Lo is in his element, whether that through bashful French maid outfits, balloon sleeved gowns or the Great Gatsby’s Daisy-inspired flapper dresses.
Playful pumpkin hats sit upon model’s heads as part of Lo’s ongoing collaboration with milliner Stephen Jones, inspired by Yayoi Kusama finishing this fun play on the past in this collection.
Lo frolics down every avenue with every element that is overtly feminine. Pussybow ties and Peter Pan collars feature heavily. Lower necklines, sheer fabrics and body fitting gowns hint towards the provocative while remaining modest in equal measures.
Ryan Lo shows how dizzyingly fun the world can be when wearing one of his designs and leaves you shouting “I LOVE IT!”.
