We expected Jamie Wei Huang to impress the audience with futuristic elements in her autumn/winter collection. However, she managed to surprise with her collection entitled To All The Hearts That Dream, which seemed to be taken straight from the 1990s. Yet, on closer inspection, one can distinguish the modern details, materials and patterns that bring these pieces into 2018.
Huang found inspiration in the 90s legendary figures from Hong Kong. These elements are represented in the collection through three-dimensional garments in bright hues of red, green and indigo, contrasted by a careful juxtaposition of fabrics and clean cuts.
One of the most striking outfits consisted of an oversized, green-coloured sweatshirt, a short denim skirt and a pair of Velcro-strap summer sandals with burgundy soles. The outfit was accessorised with a metallic green clutch and black calf length socks – elements that encapsulate a feeling of uniqueness. The sweater incorporated delicate elastic details around the waistline, making the garment body-conscious, as well as an “AW18” slogan print.
The unconventional sandals were part of every outfit alongside a unique collection of jewellery, made in collaboration with designer Fang. The earrings and bracelets resembled the 90s classic, Silly Bandz, with silicone rubber shaped into different animals or letters. However, the jewellery was made out of intricate silver shapes to add a luxurious touch to the collection.
