Milly autumn/winter 2018 collection catwalk show for NYFW
Milly presented a rainbow of a runway show to celebrate their fall 2018 collection. The show was in an empty storefront in Greenwich Village that was given a joyful Milly Moment makeover with a macramé rainbow backdrop and multicoloured message saying “our individuality is our greatest strength, and beautiful things can happen when we all come together” painted on the walls.
Instead of a traditional runway presentation that just runs once, the show repeated multiple times over the course of an hour allowing more guests to cycle through and enjoy the show and giving the event a more casual vibe.
The collection, titled Chromatic, delivered on the colourful location as a bright technicolour rainbow of looks strutted around the industrial space. Models dressed in bold, mostly monochromatic, looks.
One of the great successes of the show, and the brand in general, is Milly’s ability to turn a combination of elevated basics and a few statement pieces into something somehow both truly accessible and exciting. While the average woman might not wear head to toe shades of red, the pieces are all impeccable on their own and ready to mix and match into an existing wardrobe.
Several pieces took the looks to the next level. The long pencil skirt with oversized metallic sequins was a clear favourite with the audience eliciting cheers from the crowd. The outerwear was wonderful from tailored coats to faux fur.
In keeping with the statements on celebrating differences, the models showed a great range of diversity and guests left the show with a t-shirt that said “equality”. A perfect takeaway from a bright and hopeful show.
