Jess Glynne at the Jazz Café
Where has Jess Glynne been all this time? We have no idea, but her talent was missed. You have probably listened to her on the radio recently, and it doesn’t seem that long ago that we were all dancing to Rather Be at a party. But the truth is that the artist hasn’t released a new song since 2015. Yesterday, the London-born singer played her first gig in years at the Jazz Café, premiering her new single I’ll Be There, part of the new road she is taking.
“I think I am starting all over again. Are you ready to start all over again with me?” shouted the performer, excited to share this moment in the intimate venue, accompanied by her band. The crowd were thrilled as well, from youngsters to seniors, because the woman on stage was capable of making anyone dance and get emotional at the same time.
Kicking off slowly with My Love, Glynne lifted the audience to peaks with Rather Be and Hold my Hand, inviting everyone to wiggle down in the chorus. At this point, the dance floor was on fire – and so were the band. The musicians and backing vocalists were terrific; dancing and putting the rhythm into every song, they complemented the lead fantastically.
With Take Me Home and Why Me, the fans were singing their lungs out effusively – and loving it. They are tracks that touch your heart and show how pure and unique the star’s voice is – a trait which some have said can pass unnoticed in collaborations such as These Days with Macklemore or Real Love with Clean Bandit. Surely, but no one can deny her lyrics are unforgettable.
It was when the artist sang I’ll Be There – acing that last bit: “you are not alone; I’ll be there for you”, which gave us the goosebumps – that we knew where Glynne has been. All this time, the singer has been cooking something brilliant. And her latest release is just the beginning for the striking red-head. Listen to it, love it, sing it; it won’t disappoint. We can’t wait to hear what’s next.
