Larissa Hadjio’s diamonds and deep-sea creatures
The intriguing and unusual leather designs by Larissa Hadjio come in dreamlike shapes of diamonds and deep-sea creatures. Featured in Dazed Digital, Vogue, the Telegraph and Harper’s Bazaar, her designs are already making waves.
Her Deep Sea collection is made up of bizarre and fun undersea shapes, which – thanks to their original luxurious leather structures – are very tactual. There’s nearly everything, from leather rucksacks in the shape of fish heads, to crab-shaped bumbags and the stunningly quirky Tonie clutch which uses layers of leather to make up the body of the bag: a prawn. All of the collection needs to be browsed through in order to take in Larissa’s near-perfect understanding of the fabric, knowledge of pattern cutting and her clear sense of wit.
Her newest collection named Diamond Vision is made up of beautifully pieced-together diamond structures made from leathers to create 3D pointed clutches and bags in pale blues, suede browns and deep black. The collection has clearly developed her use of manipulating leather to create unique and stylish pieces.
Graduating from Central St Martins after studying Fine Art, Larissa’s sculptured accessories are said to be influenced by Bless and Fischli & Weiss, which can be seen in her designs; but they’re also so full of her own ideas of quality and sense of humour that her individuality shines through.
Have a browse through Larissa’s website here to see all of the intriguing pieces for yourself; they may not be cheap at around £200 for a small bag, but they are made with brilliant craftsmanship and undoubtedly unique and individual design-ethic.
