H&M and Maison Martin Margiela collaboration
We’re always excited to hear of H&M’s designer collaborations and it was no different when we heard their latest project is with Avant Garde brand Maison Martin Margiela. The brand was originally formed by Belgian designer Martin Margiela, who remained private throughout his time heading the brand, refusing to be photographed and rarely giving interviews, so it is surprising to many that the label (now owned by Diesel) would take such a big step towards increasing public awareness. The design house is still remaining tight lipped and mysterious as to what we can expect to see from the launch, although it has been confirmed the line will include women and menswear and a selection of accessories.
But if they choose to stay true to the labels style, we expect to see clean cut androgynous designs, chunky roll neck sweaters which we see being drawn in the first promo vid, and expect there to be a mix of black, white, grey and nude, keeping in line with the fashion house’s trademark colour scheme. Although we’re sure they’re thinking outside the box, it’s unlikely that we’ll see anything quite as quirky as the boxed clothing we saw on the catwalk last year.
Commenting on the venture, the spokesperson for Margiela had this to say: “We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”
“Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades,” said Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M. “I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.”
The collection is set to hits stores worldwide 15th November 2012.
