How to dress for the office in a heatwave
There’s nothing worse than checking the weather forecast on a Sunday night to see that Monday will be a scorcher whilst you’re stuck in the office. Not only does it mean you’ll miss all of that glorious sunshine, you’re likely to have your face melting down your neck by 9.15!
Avoid feeling like you’re slowly cooking from the inside out by following these simple, stylish tips for dressing for the office in a heatwave.
Keep it light
Whether we like to admit it or not, heat equals sweat, and sweat equals patches! Avoid unsightly under arms by sticking to light colours such as cream and pastel shades. Colours we may normally wear to the office such as navy and grey will only enhance the problem. Florals and prints are also excellent sweat concealers.
Put your best foot forward
This means saying goodbye to swollen feet and sandal blisters. Though the urge to rock your flip flops may be unbearable, they really are best left by the back door at home. They’re bad for your feet and just not appropriate for a professional environment. Instead, invest in a good pair of espadrilles. They’re ultra stylish and made in a breathable fabric, additionally they’re available with or without a heel, catering to everyone’s usual preference for office footwear. Wear them in around the house and pop on a pair of invisible socks to prevent rubbing in the heat. Try some with a metallic finish to add a lift to a corporate summer look!
Dress for success
Whether your place of work is super formal or it’s more laid back, a shirt dress is perfect and looks good on everyone! Choose one in a lightweight material with a loose fit and waist tie belt. Cotton is the preferred fabric as it’s breathable and won’t cling to your skin in the heat, the loose fit will allow for a breeze to pass through whilst the belt keeps your silhouette flattering with just the right amount of formality.
Style it up
There’s no use in wearing a cooling ensemble if your hair is stuck to the back of your neck from 9-5. Wearing your tresses in an up-do is considerably more comfortable in a heat wave, plus a simple top knot is a glorious finish to a fresh summer look.
