Mission: Impossible – Fallout
Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the sixth chapter in the franchise that first hit the screens 22 years ago and that can be said to have set the bar for all action films which followed. Bolder than ever before and brimming with suspense, the latest feature manages to keep up the thrills, confirming that the MI adventures are always a reliable box office hit. In this latest instalment, fans will find everything they have enjoyed in the previous films, but the script has even gone up a gear when it comes to keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.
In a frantic race against time, protagonist Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) must make amends for an impulsive decision that puts many lives in serious danger. He travels around the world to prevent imminent catastrophe with the aid of a faithful team, whose interventions add elements of romance and comedy to the equation. Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson), Luther (Ving Rhames) and Benji (Simon Pegg) are there to assist Hunt as he relentlessly engages in reckless car chases and impressive fight sequences – a visual spectacle that should be seen on a huge IMAX screen. The star-studded cast, with Alec Baldwin, Angela Bassett and Henry Cavill also playing key roles, means that cinema-goers’ interest will not be lacking, and global success is practically guaranteed.
Already set to become one of the highest-grossing releases this summer, Mission: Impossible – Fallout definitely has the wow factor when it comes to stunt-work (solid as ever) and it follows the ideal action film formula with class and textbook precision. There is nothing revolutionary in the plot, and characterisation is simplistic in that it is limited to goodies versus baddies. Still, this is the sequel that reveals the most about Hunt and his feelings, and it will reward fans on many levels. After five movies starring the same character, Fallout manages to stay engrossing and to keep up a fast and exciting momentum that will likely keep Hunt running, and sequels following one another, for a long time to come.
