Chromat showed their body positive spring/summer 2019 runway show, Saturation, to an overflowing audience on 7th September. As always, the Chromat collection was bright, bold and celebrated the bodies of all shapes and sizes.
The inspiration for the collection was a white t-shirt, so simple but so meaningful. They took the idea of a garment that women sometimes use to hide behind at a pool party and turned it into something that they can embrace with pride.
Designer Becca McCharen-Tran continued on her mission to design garments that empower all bodies. The wet t-shirt was turned into a dynamic print that featured on several swimsuits as well as sending some actual wet t-shirts down the runway. Sporty styles in bright colours, often paired together with contrasting hues in the same look, were prevalent. Cutouts and zipper detailing that the brand has used in past seasons returned.
There was a mix of designs with varying coverage, reinforcing the idea that individuality and self-expression are core values. There were also contemporary cover-ups that were built help the wearer to stand out, not hide.
When it comes to body positivity, it’s much more than just lip service for this brand. The Chromat runway continues to be one of the few that truly shows a range of inclusion in their models. During the finale, they sent multiple t-shirts that said “Sample Size” down the runway in a variety of sizes as a final reminder that there is no one ideal size, no one ideal body.
