Out of Blue premiere: On the red carpet with director Carol Morley, Patricia Clarkson and cast

Best described by director Carol Morley as a metaphysical noir, Out of Blue is a new crime drama that brings together introspective analysis and investigative spirit. Recovering alcoholic detective Mike Hoolihan, interpreted by Patricia Clarkson, is called to solve the murder of astrophysicist Jennifer Rockwell. Various elements evoke memories of the past, and the protagonist finds herself not simply on the hunt for the killer, but in search of a higher cosmological truth. Based on Martin Amis’s novel Night Train, the movie revolves around the big questions of life while offering the beauty of New Orleans and a suggestive score by Clint Mansell.

We stopped by the red carpet of the movie’s European Premiere during the London Film Festival to talk with the director and the cast.

Director Carol Morley described the learning curve of filmmaking, especially when working with experienced cast members. She told us of her upcoming project and mentioned the mystery of the cat on set among the highlights of the production for Out of Blue.

Patricia Clarkson told us about her unadorned character, undefined by anyone, and how female stories shouldn’t be an exception, and spoke of Carol Morley and the setting in her hometown New Orleans having been the key factors that prompted her to work on this project.

Toby Jones spoke about the importance of independent distribution houses and the existence of films such as Out of Blue because of them
