Where to do your Christmas shopping
With the excitement of Christmas and its many wonders comes the mammoth task of Christmas shopping. Filling stockings doesn’t have to be stressful though, given that there are now so many places to find gifts for your loved ones. Here are some of the places you might consider searching for the perfect presents to put under the tree.
Christmas markets
If you want to make Christmas shopping more of an experience, head to one of the UK’s many markets and combine gifts with glittering lights – and gluhwein. You could check out Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland; for the biggest German market outside of Germany and an ice-rink to boot, try Birmingham; or if you want something a little more artisan, visit the classy offerings laid out by Bath. Failing that, most big cities will have a selection of stalls, and what’s more, you can pick up some mulled cider while you shop!
Go online
Of course, in this day and age, if you prefer to avoid the crowds, the same items can often be found online. Amazon offers fast, free delivery on gifts across the board, or alternatively, most chains have their own online store – especially useful if they don’t have the right size or colour on the day. Don’t forget, though, that there are special sites offering discounts, deals and online coupons that could save you heaps this Christmas. Buying for the masses doesn’t have to break the bank if you look in the right places.
Independent shops
A great place to find more personal gifts is smaller, quirkier, independently run boutiques. This could be anything from designer jewellery shops selling work from local artists to chocolate and cheese shops. Your work is guaranteed to be one of a kind, and at the same time, you will have the satisfaction of talking to shop-owners face to face and helping small businesses to stay afloat in an increasingly web-centric age.
Department stores
If you (or the recipient of your presents) are a fan of big brands, or enjoy taking in the dazzling festive window displays, you might consider sticking to the main high street. Oxford Street has spectacular decorations and offers the ultimate experience for the shopaholic. Debenhams and John Lewis are always reliable for a great selection of items from homeware to occasionwear, and considering their current financial worries, it might be worth enjoying them while you still can!
