Astrid Andersen autumn/winter 2019 collection catwalk show for LFWM

Danish-born designer Astrid Andersen’s Autumn/Winter 2019 collection begun as her own take on a classic two-piece pinstripe suit. The waistcoat – which had a series of unique curves and angular edges – was worn over a ribbed jumper with abstract satin panelling. The duality of classic menswear style combined with a surreal, clashing quirkiness rang true to the designer’s particular aesthetic.

What followed was a series of relaxed silhouettes blending streetwear with an eclectic mix of prints, materials and knitted textures. Pyjama-like striped shirts and trousers were paired with oversized knits, while Anderson also gave a nod to performance-wear as seen in previous seasons, this time appearing as padded windbreakers and bodywarmers with reflective panels, often making use of the pinstripe motif seen in initial looks.

A varied palette of greys and camel beiges were perked up with rambunctious sky blue, red and tropical green. This was translated onto the often generously layered looks, which included sporty tracksuits, kimonos and cable knit co-ords. An unusual touch of pomp was added with the appearance of lace and fur coats, a reoccurring theme in Anderson’s work and perhaps one of its most distinctive characteristics.

Wild and haphazard, the air of carelessness and freedom of the range made it a bold and energetic offering from Astrid Anderson.
