Five tips to become the best version of yourself this 2019
The New Year is a great opportunity for a fresh start. So for 2019, take the time to set goals for yourself that are both realistic and attainable that are in line with what you truly want for yourself.
Here are five tips to become the best version of yourself this 2019!
Learn a foreign language
Have you always wanted to learn another language, but haven’t dedicated the time and energy to it quite yet? Make this the year to do so! It is all too easy to postpone the dream of learning a foreign language, so taking the first step is often the most important. Thanks to websites like Babbel for example, you can learn a little bit every day and it can be done anywhere, anytime.
Note: It is helpful to think of why you want to learn a specific language and surround yourself with reminders of that reason.
Read more books
There is nothing like sitting down with a good book. Whether it is a non-fiction, educational or fiction book, reading is a great way to let your mind wander and actively learn new vocabulary and expand your knowledge. Write out a list of books that you have wanted to read and set a realistic 2019 goal to get to them. This will also help you turn to a book rather than technology when you have some down time, another great practice.
Be more active
Being more active is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, and for good reason. Regular physical activity boosts health, improves sleep, increases energy and can be a great way to get out with friends! It is important to set a realistic goal for yourself and explore what ‘being active’ looks like to you. Do you want to start up with a particular type of exercise? Walk 3-5x/week? Start up with bike riding or rock climbing? How will you feel as you work towards this goal?
Eat healthy
We all know what you put into your body makes a difference. So if you set “eat healthy” as a goal for 2019, you will be setting yourself up for a great year. For this goal, it is helpful to take into consideration the time, energy and budget you are working with. That way, you can make it a lifestyle shift instead of a temporary thing.
Set yourself up for success by meal planning and prepping to avoid the stress of ‘what’s for dinner?’ and food waste. It is also helpful to have a couple go-to meals you can turn to when in a pinch, as well as doubling up your dinners so you have leftovers for lunch the next day!
Get better quality sleep
Sleep affects everything: mood, productivity, energy, and health, just to name a few. With better quality sleep in 2019, you’ll be taking better care of yourself in all these areas. To do so, start by paying attention to what your body naturally needs. Stay in tune and consistent with your sleep-wake cycle, even on weekends! If you are having trouble getting to sleep, try raising your activity level during the day and reduce your exposure to light during the night, including screen time 1-2 hours before bed.
Each of these tips enables you to be the best version of yourself. Along with these practices and showing yourself the self-love and gratitude that you deserve, you can make 2019 the best year of you yet.
