House of Dagmar: Three sisters, one amazing clothing collection
If you’ve never heard of this label House of Dagmar before, let us tell you a bit about it. This Swedish fashion company is ran by three super talented sisters; each sister has a lot of experience working within the fashion industry, so together they decided to combine their skills and create a fashion collection.
Kristina Tjäder is head designer, educated at École Superieur de la Mode in Paris. Previously, she has worked for Christian Lacroix, H&M and several other well-known Swedish brands. Karin Söderlind supervised purchasing and product development for H&M for eight years and has been operating as a brand manager and PR consultant for many years. Sofia Wallenstam, a textile economist, is Dagmar’s head of sales with many years of experience in retailing.
Since the label was launched in 2005, its unconventional and sophisticated style has been widely recognised by the fashion industry as well as the press throughout Europe, United States and Asia.
The garments from Dagmar really stand out with their unique combination of high quality, trendiness and sensuality. Many of the pieces are hand-knitted, or have added handmade details. Safeguarding the craftsmanship and to make use of valued traditions from the past are important parts of the creative process when developing the collections. When asked how they came up with the name, Karin said: “Dagmar was our late grandmother, we loved her and wanted to honor her. We also have a large vision for the company and that is why we settled with naming it House of Dagmar.” Their grandmother was a tailor herself and inspired the sisters to develop their interest in fabrics and design at a young age.
A lot of the pieces are based around the 20s and 30s, which comes out in the colours and patterns used. Karin said: “We take a lot of inspiration from film/motion pictures and art and put it all into contemporary pieces.”
The three have created the brand for women who are strong, confident and have their own unique fashion sense. The Pre Fall 2012 collection includes a stunning lace tunic dress, a leather and suede jacket and a gorgeous long jersey dress. It’s hard not to fall in love with their amazing collection!
When asked what’s next for House of Dagmar, Karin said: “We are very proud about getting our collection onto Net-a-porter.com this August, and are really looking forward to that. We have many exciting projects going on at the moment; we are designing clothes for a movie but we cannot speak about this yet.” I can’t wait to see what will come next from these talented sisters.
