The most entertaining things to do in Canada
Canada is one of the world’s most popular travel destinations; as well as it arguably being one of the most beautiful countries in the world, it is also the third most visited country in North America, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization. An article about Canada’s tourism in 2018 revealed that last year, the North American country had a record-breaking year, welcoming 21 million people into its borders.
The country is an incredibly beautiful place, offering locations such as the CN Tower, Niagara Falls, and Stanley Park, but visitors aren’t going to Canada just for the views. The country also offers a huge variety of entertainment, from nightlife at famous clubs like Uniun Nightclub in Toronto, world-class theatres, and star-packed venues like the huge 54,000 capacity BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. Whether you’re on a quest for the perfect night out or to see the show of your dreams, Canada has it all.
A night at the opera
Canada’s theatre scene may not have as much recognition as New York City’s Broadway or London’s West End, but it’s still a great place to catch some of the most talked-about shows. At the Princess of Wales Theatre, which is just an eight-hour drive from Broadway if anyone’s counting, you can watch the Phantom of the Opera, the classic musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which has been running since 1986.
Starting at the Ed Mirvish Theatre, another popular location for Toronto theatergoers, you’ll be able to watch the United States political musical, Hamilton, from February 2020. So many people want Hamilton tickets that, in other places where the production has passed through, ticket prices have gone past $250. People have seemingly gone to the ends of the Earth just to witness Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work of musical art.
Experience gaming glamour
Canada is big on its ganes, with giants such as Casino De Montreal – which attracts nearly 20,000 visitors every day. Popular Canadian card games like Kaiser have been played since the late 19th century and Euchre was likely created somewhere around the 1850s, although the first Canadian gaming hall wasn’t built until 1972. Yukon’s hall is still a popular destination today, still residing as the first land-based establishment in the country and a piece of vintage Canadian history – plus, a tourist spot to tick off your Canadian “to do” list.
The country also offers some more modern gaming experiences as well as games that you don’t have to leave your hotel room or Airbnb to play. There are several trusted & legit sites in Canada where you can find great online platforms with a variety of classic card games.
The Canadian music scene
Canada has a huge list of musical talent, with some of the biggest names in music hailing from the country, such as pop stars Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber, punk rocker Avril Lavigne, rapper Drake, and popular blues crooner Michael Bublé. While the most famous names are often doing world tours outside of their home country, if you time it right you may be able to catch a show. International stars like Elton John, KISS and the Jonas Brothers are all scheduled to perform in Canada this year.
Whatever form of entertainment you enjoy, Canada will not disappoint. The country has just about something for everyone, making it a fantastic destination for a holiday you’ll never forget.
