Five Hollywood movie destinations you should visit at least once
If you are out of ideas for your next travel destination, we have a proposition for you. Why not visit one of the mesmerising places you’ve seen in your favourite Hollywood movies?
The movie industry usually shoots scenes at the most incredible locations, many of which we dream of visiting, but we rarely get the chance.
If you like the idea but don’t know where to start, here are some of our top locations, along with the movies that were filmed there.
New Zealand – Lord of the Rings
Before the first part of Lord of the Rings was filmed in 2001, most travellers regarded New Zealand as a distant place reserved for the adventurous ones. However, once Frodo, Gandalf, and Smeagle entered our homes, more and more movie fans decided to visit theirs as well.
As a result, New Zealand got a huge tourism boost after the trilogy’s success. The viewers were amazed by the enchanted forests, the awe-inspiring mountains, and the unspoilt nature. However, what they all craved to see the most was the Hobbiton.
Today, the Hobbit village is the most popular tourist destination in the country, which you can visit as well. Explore the streets and the homes where the most epic scenes in the film industry took place.
Las Vegas – Ocean’s Eleven
If you want to feel Hollywood in all its luxury and splendour, then the Sin City is the place to go. Did you know that the Strip (the city’s most famous boulevard) served as the movie set for more than 250 Hollywood films?
One of the most popular ones is definitely Ocean’s Eleven. It is regarded as one of the movies with the best film cast ever, featuring celebrity names such as George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia and many others. Who knows, if you choose to go there, you might actually bump into some of them.
Italy – The Godfather
No movie buff can afford to label themselves that unless they have visited Italy. Italy is the native country to some of the best actors in the world, such as Al Pacino, Monica Bellucci, Roberto Benigni, Robert De Niro and so on.
One of the most popular movies ever filmed on picturesque Italian streets is The Godfather. But even if you are not a fan of gangster movies, you’ll find multiple ways to enjoy this Mediterranean jewel. Think of food, wine, music, sun, ancient architecture, and more.
The UK – Harry Potter
Not saying that you need a special reason to visit the UK and Scotland, but in case you can’t think of any other, why not travel here to see where Harry Potter was filmed! Many argue that it is the best movie franchise ever to hit the theatres, but we’ll let you decide.
The majority of the most memorable scenes were filmed in the UK on a myriad of locations. You can visit many of these as a tourist, take photos, and learn about the film and the long history associated with these places.
Petra, Jordan – Indiana Jones
Last but not least, we’re taking you on a more exotic trip to visit Petra, Jordan. This location was popularised by the Hollywood classic, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. Even though the location was used for just a handful of scenes, the tourist visits skyrocketed after the movie hit the cinemas.
If you need more reasons to visit Petra, how about the fact that this impressive structure was built more than 2,000 years ago and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site?
