Guide to planning an NYC theatre group bus tour
New York has one of the most thriving music scenes in the country. Each year, it has an influx of students and other theatre enthusiasts looking to tour the city and feast their eyes on the many glorious productions that the city has to offer. From musicals to modern day adaptations of Shakespeare to larger than life productions and tributes to Samuel Beckett’s theatre of the absurd, New York City has a little bit of everything to offer. So, just in case you are planning to take your theatre group on a trip to explore the New York City theatre scene, know that you will be spoilt for choices. But while that is all very exciting, it might still prove a bit difficult to actually plan the intricacies of the trip. One good place to start would be to book a private NYC tour bus rental and proceed from there. Once the transportation part is sorted, everything else should fall into place pretty easily. But just in case you still need help with planning an exquisitely dramatic affair for your theatre mates, here are some tips and tricks that can help you along the journey:
Choose your transportation well
Since such a trip would essentially mean that you guys will be stuck on the road for quite a while between shows and seeing the sights, choosing proper transportation is pretty important. The best way to go about doing this would be to rent a charter bus depending on your particular requirements. If the trip is going to last for over a day and might include over 40 people, you could go for a charter bus. These buses are airconditioned, have plush reclining seats, more than ample legroom and huge storage space to pack in all your personal belongings and group snacks.
They also come with power sockets, wi-fi, a bathroom and a professional driver who can help you with the routes and such. This way everyone can connect and have fun on the way too and no one would worry about the traffic and any coordination problems. If you are travelling with fewer than 40 people, a mini charter or coach is an equally good option. It does not come with a bathroom or a storage compartment but has ample space for everyone’s day bags in the overhead space. If you are on a strict budget and have a smaller group, a school bus would make for a pretty decent option too. This is especially true if you are travelling with young kids. The school buses are designed for safety and comfort and also come with power sockets and wi-fi.
Do your bookings early
And we don’t just mean the accommodations. While that is obviously important, especially if you are travelling in a big group, booking tickets for theatre productions is even more so. The more famous show tickets tend to sell out soon so you might miss out on the best ones if you wait too long. Depending on when you are planning on going, remember to research the shows being put up and book accordingly. Some of the best productions that definitely should not be missed would be:
- The Phantom of the Opera
- The Book of Mormon
- Moulin Rouge! The Musical
- The Lion King
- The Office! A Musical Parody
Obviously, the list will keep changing depending on where you plan on visiting so keep a lookout for famous and classic productions as well as the up and coming ones that show promise.
Plan other activities
While everyone you will be travelling with has to be a theatre enthusiast, it’s still a good idea to break the monotony of watching one show after the other and go sightseeing. New York, after all, has pretty much of everything, from architectural beauties to thriving night scenes to craft breweries that definitely deserve some of your attention. Here is a list of the places that you should definitely visit in between shows to keep the trip feeling unique and fun:
- Central Park
- Times Square
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art
- Brooklyn Bridge
- The Museum of Modern Art
- Empire State Building
- Rockefeller Centre
- Luna Park
- Carousel Ride
- Fantasy Forest Amusement Park
- Roberta’s for some delicious pizza
End the tour with dome gloriously golden craft beer from Berg’n and the Other Half Brewing before heading to the hotel for some good night’s sleep or to Time Square to get a taste of some of New York’s night scene also you can select some other cheap travel destinations as an additional thing.
