There is nothing more frustrating than home interior items getting old or ruined. Replacing some small items may not hurt your wallet much, but when it comes to ruining a sofa or the carpet, you may not have that budget ready for replacements. However, a DIY house repair project with good products may end up being a cheap and creative way to fix a lot of these issues. Here are some DIY tips and tricks that can help you around the house:

Repair tears in couches with different fabrics

It is only a matter of time until the sides of your couch will naturally start tearing (it happens especially fast for cat owners). The most common way people deal with the issue is by covering the sofa with some blankets or cushions. However, the sofa is an important piece of your interior and this may be your chance to get creative and freshen it up. 

Using lace fabric to cover the tears is one of the options, as it gives an elegant look, but there are plenty of different fabrics and patches to choose from, depending on what kind of interior design you are going for. If you are willing to spend more time on it, embroidery is an extremely artistic way to fix tears.

Make wall stains and marks into artwork

Getting marker or other non-washable stains on your walls can be a reason to renew your interior by repainting them. However, before you do so, you can always try and make it into something more creative and stylish. Now, it doesn’t necessarily have to be some amazing painting; you can simply draw some cute flowers or just cover the wall in polka dots. Rolling up your sleeves and getting creative will not only be a fun and freeing Saturday activity, but will also leave you with a new design look. Besides that, you can always paint the walls if you don’t like the look, so there is nothing to lose. 

Get candle wax out of the carpet with a steam iron

If you have accidentally spilt some candle wax all over the carpet, don’t panic and start scratching it with sharp tools. Doing so could potentially get rid of the wax but you also risk damaging the carpet. A great way to safely get rid of it is by putting a bit of paper on the wax and pressing a steam iron on top of it for a little bit. The wax should melt and stick to the paper, leaving the carpet clean. 

There is a similar way to deal with wax stains on other materials, such as a sofa fabric or clothing. Pressing a bag of ice cubes onto the stain helps the wax to loosen up and peel off without much effort. 

Fix broken ceramics with polymer clay 

If you broke your favourite mug or a flower pot it may seem like there is nothing you can do to fix it. Although this is partly right and you can’t make it new again, you can always repair it with a bit of creative flair. 

Using polymer clay is one user-friendly way to do it and it’s usually relatively easy (you can bake it in your kitchen oven). You can also look up some creative ideas and renew the old item with details, play with different colours and make some new stand-out interior pieces.
