The Jonas Brothers play ebullient reunion set at Wembley Arena
Late Monday evening, the Jonas Brothers made their long-awaited return to the stage at Wembley Arena for their second night in London on their Happiness Begins Tour. Known for their numerous chart-topping hits in the early 2000s and infamous Disney original movie, Camp Rock, the band called it quits in 2013. After their hiatus, it seems as though they are back with a bang, releasing their comeback album, Happiness Begins, in June of last year and are topping the charts yet again.
Descending to the stage from the ceiling on a platform, the trio opened with Rollercoaster, a song from Happiness Begins. As soon as the band emerged with an incredible light display, the whole room seemed to light up with each note that they sang, exciting new and old fans alike.
Whether it was during the upbeat throwbacks from their early days or their newer, more mature songs, excitement permeated the whole gig. The combination of the songs performed from their Disney days and the songs from their recent release played well with almost every member of the audience; it was truly a party.
The subtle nods to the Jonas Brothers’ younger selves in the various background videos on stage during parts of the show could have been confusing to younger, newer fans in the audience, as each one explored a different aspect of either their past music or present lives (their solo careers, marriages, and kids), but they were enjoyable Easter eggs for older fans.
The brothers made it very clear that despite their hiatus and years between albums, they can still turn out an invigorating, upbeat performance that keeps their audience on their feet at all times – even up to the end of the show, whose final song was Burning Up. Confetti rained down on the crowd and the Jonas Brothers yelled out something along the lines of “Goodnight London, we love you!” and then exited the stage, leaving fans of all ages in awe of the performance that had just come to a close.
One of the last remaining Disney Channel-era boy bands on the scene, the Jonas Brothers showed proof that despite breaking up, they have found their way back to where happiness begins.
