What to know about American culture
Over the years, American culture has gone through a massive change. It is much different than what it was 20 years ago. Culture has become more liberal and that is likely a good thing for Americans across the board. If you’re going to be visiting the United States or moving there, you’ll want to learn as much as you can about American culture. By doing so, you can guarantee that you’ll be able to fit in without any problems whatsoever. Within this guide, you’re going to learn a lot more about American culture so you can be ready.
Thinking big
Most countries focus on getting things done quickly and practically. Whether they’re eating, driving, or working, they’re going to find the most compact solution for the problem at hand. Americans are different. They’re usually looking for the biggest way to solve the problem. When you visit the United States, you’re going to notice that almost everything is bigger. This includes automobiles, food portions, and more. You may not be able to eat all of the food on your plate but you’ll be glad that it is there. You can take it home and enjoy it at a later time.
You’ll also have to understand that some meals are meant to be shared. This is often the case with entrees. If you’re going to be ordering an entree in the United States, you’ll want someone there to share it with you.
To-go
Another thing to note is that Americans are always on the go. They’re always running around and trying to get things done in the shortest time. If you’re going to be hanging out with American’s you’re going to be running around a lot. And, you’re going to hear that 24 hours each day is simply not enough. You’ll also notice that a lot of Americans are going to be eating and drinking on the go. When they’re walking down the sidewalk, they’ll have a biscuit in their hand. Or, they may be carrying a coffee mug.
Most Americans eat meals in their vehicle and you’ll notice this a lot. It is normal for Americans to eat while they drive to work.
Sports
Americans are major sports fans. You may enjoy watching sports at home but you’re likely not going to be as enthusiastic as an America. Just remember that the sports you watch are going to be much different than the ones an American enjoys. They’re going to love watching football, basketball, and baseball. You may prefer soccer but that sport hasn’t become very popular in the United States. In America, it is common for people to take off work so they can sit around and watch football with their buddies.
Competition
When you enter America, you’re going to enter a land of competition. Whether it is playing no deposit pokies or trying to obtain a promotion at work, Americans thrive on competition. They love pushing themselves to the limits so they can outperform someone else. If you’re going to live and work in America, you have to be ready to compete with a lot of people. You have to prove your worth and you need to show that you’re just as good as everyone else.
Voicing their opinions
It is never a bad thing to know what someone is thinking. After all, no one is a mind reader and you simply do not know what others wants unless they tell you. You might be able to harness a few guesses, but that would be as about as far as you would ever get. This is one of the great things about Americans. You do not have to worry about what they are thinking. Most of the time they will come out and tell you. This is especially true when it comes to the workplace. Americans are known for speaking their minds and this is what they will do. This probably has to do with the fact that most Americans are so privileged.
Now, this doesn’t mean that Americans are rude and aloof. This is not the case at all. They will just tell you what they are thinking. There is a major difference between being subversive and rude. And, Americans are straight up, but they know how to go about it in a respectful way.
