Villain: An interview with director Philip Barantini and actor Craig Fairbrass
British director Philip Barantini this month unveils his gritty new crime thriller feature film, Villain, which harrowingly carves a path through the corrupt undercurrents of gangland London and then emerges with surprising glimpses of tenderness that are so often a rarity in this particular genre. Well-known British actor Craig Fairbass stars as brooding Eddie Franks, an old-time gangster who gets released from prison after serving a ten-year stretch. He hopes to reconnect with his estranged daughter Chloe (Izuka Hoyle) and clear his brother Sean’s (George Russo) debts, but despite his best endeavours he finds himself back in the criminal abyss, with devastating ramifications.
We sat down with Barantini and Fairbrass to discuss this new project, how it was filmed, and the importance of authenticity in the portrayal of the story.
