Why people are travelling to Turkey for dental treatment
When you think of Turkey you might think of sun, sea and sand. You might think of ornate mosques, markets full of spices and colourful mosaics. You might think of meat fresh off the grill, of flatbreads, falafel and sticky baklava. What you might not think of immediately is dental work. However, as it turns out, this country has been putting smiles on people’s faces in more ways than one. As well as being a popular location for package holidays, cultural getaways and cross-continental discovery, it’s also a top destination for cheap veneers.
What are veneers?
For those who aren’t familiar with the term, veneers are custom-made shells, crafted from porcelain or resin composite materials, which are bonded to the front of the teeth. They are made to mimic the properties of teeth and used as an alternate form of whitening without applying chemicals to the teeth themselves. People often opt for veneers over standard treatment as porcelain resists stains unlike natural enamel, meaning a better long-term result. They also allow you to modify your teeth in a variety of ways: as well as brightening the shade, you can also change length, shape and size. This means you can use this treatment to fix teeth that are worn down, chipped or broken, discoloured, irregular or gappy. Depending on the scale of the alterations, the process can take a few visits, the first being a professional consultation.
Why Turkey?
When getting veneers Turkey has become one of the top market contenders because in general, customers are able to receive treatment at a much lower cost. While cosmetic can be extremely expensive in the UK, given that it isn’t covered on the NHS, Turkey has invested a lot of money into this particular industry, and as a result, they are able to offer budget treatment whilst delivering the same services as private firms in the UK. And there is, of course, the added bonus of being able to go on holiday and lie on the beach at the same time. Next time someone tells you they are going to Turkey, you shouldn’t be surprised if they come back sporting a new smile as well as the usual tan.
Why the Increased interest?
Why are there so many people willing to travel abroad for dental treatment? Well, for the Instagram generation, selfies are everything, and people are becoming more self-conscious than ever about their smiles. After all, it tends to be the first thing we notice about a person’s appearance. But apart from this, there is an increased endorsement from reality stars on social media. Notable figures who have invested in veneers include X-Factor contestant and Celebrity Big Brother winner Rylan Clark-Neal and TV personalities Katie Price and Stacey Soloman. It’s even showcased amongst top Hollywood actors such as Demi Moore – though admittedly with so many white smiles on the red carpet, the result of veneers or otherwise, it’s hardly surprising that people are seeking out ways to look like these glamourous stars.
