Hot home trends for autumn 2020

Hot home trends for autumn 2020

Are you excited about the arrival of autumn? Do you draw inspiration from nature when it comes to interior design? If your answer is yes, it’s time to get excited about the following hot home trends that are expected to be huge in autumn 2020.

Check the basics

Small upgrades include painting all walls a fresh, neutral tone with a pop of colour (mustard and mauve with a mix of cream are perfect for this time of year). White walls are out, so opt for an off-white tone as an alternative. Adding a large contemporary mirror in the main living room and resurfacing your kitchen cabinets with a shiny hardwood finish are ways to make a big impact on the overall look of your space.

Think big

If you have the budget, why not make some major renovations? Home lifts are a rising trend and installing one will future-proof your space. Other major renovations that you could make this autumn include landscaping your garden and putting in a new oak-finished kitchen. Worried about the cost of major upgrades? Updating, refreshing and modernising your home will pay its dividends when the time comes to sell your property.

Structured simplicity

This trend is ideal for those that prefer a more laid-back style. It’s all about invoking a sense of calmness with comfortable, more inviting spaces to chill out in. Think warm tones and lots of layering. Invest in knitted throws, pared-back furniture, soft lighting fixtures and a cosy rug. Get rid of bold colours, bulky furniture and anything that does not promote a sense of calm.

Vintage is back

Expect to see vintage-inspired pieces everywhere as interior designers fall in love with traditional detailing. This trend is all about glamour so think spindles, spooled legs, fabric with subtle patterns, wooden clocks, crushed velvet, antique furniture, natural wood and patterned wallpaper.

Metallics and mixed metals

Say goodbye to silver and stainless steel and say hello to gold and copper fittings. You might be put off copper as it can look quite industrial and unfinished? But don’t be, once you have incorporated copper and metallic into a well-planned design scheme, achieving a warm, homely feel will be very easy.

Country kitchen

A country-inspired kitchen is perfect for creating a rustic, timeless vibe. Most interior designers would recommend starting off with neutral-coloured walls and adding a pop of colour through tiles or cabinets. Try and find appliances and fittings that scream traditional – teapot kettles, clay pots, chrome taps and a retro toaster are all perfect.

Sustainability

Sustainability is becoming more and more important with each season that passes. This fall is no different so think about how you could be more eco-friendly in your design choices. Have you considered investing in plant-based furniture? Have you thought about building a green space in your home – somewhere that gives you space to grow fresh produce and get in touch with the great outdoors? Maybe you could buy smart tech products that will increase your energy savings and lower your carbon footprint. It’s easy to make more sustainable choices once you start to look around.
