Original recipe of the week: get some nuts for the Olympic games
On the fall of the Summer 2012 Olympics, I think we all need to step up the plate and embrace our inner athlete. Now, we know that cake won’t help you do this (definitely not part of the Olympic athlete menu), but with a tag line like “get some nuts” a snickers cake will surely get the ball rolling.
High sugar, high energy and full of flavour, the perfect treat to eat with friends whilst enjoying the London 2012 Olympics the British way. An afternoon of tea and cake: what could be better?
Snickers Loaf cake
Cooking time: 45 minutes
What you will need:
190g plain flour
190g caster sugar
190g plain butter – at room temperature
1 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp sour cream
3 eggs
4 Snickers bars – chopped
1 pinch of salt
100g roasted peanuts
Method:
- Preheat your oven to 180c and line a loaf tin with baking parchment.
- Measure out and add all of the dry ingredients to a big bowl and stir with a wooden spoon to combine.
- Next add the butter and eggs and mix to smooth and creamy consistency.
- The sour cream can now be added and stirred in gently along with the peanuts and Snickers bar pieces.
- When roughly mixed, spoon into the loaf tin evenly.
- Now place in the middle of your oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown and cooked all the way through.
- Remove from the oven and leave to cool if you wish, but warm from the oven is best; gooey, oozing chocolate and crunchy peanuts encased in a light sweet sponge – to die for.
- Serve with a cup of tea or vanilla ice cream as an alternative dessert option to any dinner party.
